Delivering Life

Dear son,

You would be happy to know how much daddy and mummy love you. Since we first knew that mummy was pregnant up until the day you were wrapped safely in the hospital's receiving blanket.

I can't never forget the day you were born.

It was on your 38th week in my womb. I went for my regular check up. Daddy was there when the doctor said my blood pressure was a bit higher than usual and I was already 1cm dilated. She then asked me to relax and come again tomorrow to get ready for the big day.

Suddenly I felt a pang of everything - mixture of feelings knocked my head. Am I ready for all these?

Nevermind. I am ready. I am so ready to meet you, child. Mummy can't wait to see you!

On 11th February 2009, I was induced early in the morning. My blood pressure was fine. Everything seemed ok. The doctor said that labour can occur as soon as 2pm the same day.

10am - I started to feel the contractions.

11am - More contractions.

12pm - More and more contractions.

2pm - More and more and more contractions. No sign of labour. 1 1/2cm dilated.

3pm - Still no sign of labour.

4pm - Nothing. Nada.

7.30pm - My water broke while I was praying. It felt funny when a pile of colorless water gushing between your legs. Panic attack. But I was only 2 1/2cm dilated. I was retained in the same room.

8pm, 9pm,10pm - The contractions were very much greater.

2am 12th February 2009 - I can't sleep. The pain was unbearable. I need to get the pain killer.

6am - The contractions were very keen to visit me.

8am - The pain was much greater than before. I was already 5cm dilated. To the labour room is where I was pushed.

10am - I was busy pushing. All the pain in the world resided in my body.

11am - Doctor went in the labour room. She guided me through the whole process. Daddy was being so loyal, he stayed beside me all the time. Patiently waiting.

11.20am - After a final all-strength-in-the-world push, a life was born. YOU were born. I have safely delivered a life. And there you were, looking all purplish and cold. You looked so amazing.

I promise you, my dear child. I'll take care of you as long as I shall live. With my unconditional love, thou shall always be with me.

Welcome to the world, Iqbal Musyrif Bin Omar. Jadilah anak yang soleh.

Love,
Mummy.
